Pop Art Meets Abstraction with the Peace and Love Stencil
In this video, John Beckley demonstrates how to create a bold and modern Pop Art / Abstract painting using the giant Peace and Love stencil as the central element.
The artwork was created on an 80×80 cm canvas using a combination of acrylic paints and spray paint.
Step-by-Step Artistic Process
To begin, John prepared a textured background to bring depth and energy to the piece. He layered various abstract textures and used multiple stencils to enrich the surface with details and complexity.
Once the background was complete, the Peace and Love stencil was placed over the area to be preserved. John then covered the entire canvas with a layer of black spray paint, protecting the vibrant background underneath the stencil.
After removing the stencil, the colorful design underneath was revealed. He then used the same stencil again to add splatter effects and subtle shadowing, enhancing contrast and reinforcing the stencil’s shape within the dark area.
